How do I make a uvular consonant sound (a type of throaty sound)?
I tried X (Portuguese), R (French), R (German) but…
Liam has about 50% success rate for German R, about 5% rate for Portuguese X and 0% for French R
all other voicebanks perform poorly, although Mai can get a decent uvular /q/ for X (with the sound shape turned high up so it’s a plosive) like sometimes but also not that often.
May be fricative, plosive, doesn’t matter. Only the place of articulation matters, what I’m getting is mainly different w, qh, l, gh, lr sounds but not what I want.
I am trying to approximate different languages that have uvular consonants and Liam does have about 80% success rate for the voiced uvular plosive /ɢ/ when made using a German R with the triangular sound shape turned up and far away from the left boundary, he performs poorly when he has to hold any uvular sound for extended periods, often replacing it with what sounds like a lisping “t” or “s” as if he had a lisp. Other voicebanks perform poorly and often insert a “h” or “wL” sound, or sometimes a sort of “l” or “t” that sounds like a lisp.
Keep in mind that until recently, uvular consonants did not exist in SynthV, and were only added in the 2.3.0tp1 beta update as part of the newly added languages. These languages are in beta phase and experience many issues. They are far from perfect and especially with “R” they have problems.
Also the percentages are estimated “by eye” and may not be accurate
