About This Beta

Version 2.2.0b1 focuses on providing users with easy-to-use tools for creating complex and nuanced vocal arrangements, including harmonies, doubling, and layered vocal textures.

Voice Doubling

The new Doubling section within the Voice panel allows for the creation of up to 16 layers from a single voice. This functionality streamlines the process of achieving a choir-like effect, previously requiring manual duplication and retake application.

The “Spacing” parameter provides precise control over stereo separation between doubled voices, saving the need to manually pan each track to achieve a sense of spatial presence.

Effects Panel

Synthesizer V Studio Pro 2.2.0 introduces an integrated Effects panel featuring a streamlined vocal effect chain. This chain follows a standard order of EQ, compression, and reverb, providing basic mixing capabilities directly within the software.

The Effects Panel is primarily intended for previewing vocal sounds and applying quick, preset-based effects – particularly useful in pre-production stages or for users who do not require a full DAW environment.

Room Sound Simulation

Integrated within the Effects Panel, the Room Sound simulator offers a nuanced approach to panning and spatial positioning. Reflection of sound waves by the walls are modeled to create a natural stereo delay effect, enhancing the reverb characteristics and adding a sense of space to vocal performances. This feature is particularly well-suited for creating realistic multi-part choirs and achieving a warm, spacious texture.

Musical Scales

The piano roll now supports musical scale visualization. Users can set the root note and pattern via the tool bar, toggling Scale Mode to highlight notes within the selected scale on the keys and background. This feature provides a visual aid for composing and arranging within a specific harmonic context.

Musical scale settings can be applied to individual groups. To apply the same settings to multiple groups, simply select all desired groups and adjust the Scale settings within the Voice panel.

MusicXML Support

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro now supports importing MusicXML files, allowing users to easily transfer existing musical arrangements into our editor. This functionality includes support for lyric data and conversion into Synthesizer V’s notation for slurs and syllable continuation.

Render Cache

Version 2.2.0 introduces a Render Cache to significantly improve project loading times and reduce memory usage. This system stores synthesized phoneme, pitch, and audio data on disk, eliminating the need to re-render these elements upon reopening a project.

To ensure optimal performance, the cache is automatically managed. Users can monitor the current cache size within the Rendering settings.

Note: Projects must be saved before closing to validate the cached data.

Improved Rendering Progress Display

The rendering progress is now displayed in the Arrangement view and along the timeline, providing clear feedback on the status of each group. This allows users to easily monitor progress and identify sections ready for playback.

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.2.0

New Features

  • Added voice doubling: specify the number of voices and spacing between voices in the Voice panel under “Doubling”.
  • Added Effects panel and an effect chain (spatialization, equalization, compression, reverberation) to each track.
  • Added musical scale settings to note groups:
    • Turn on scale visualization in the piano roll to see key and background highlighting based on the selected musical scale.
    • Alternatively, set the scale in the Voice panel for all selected groups.
  • Added project import support for MusicXML formats (.mxl, .xml, .musicxml).
  • Added render cache for reducing the memory footprint and avoiding re-renders when opening a saved project.
    • Note: projects need to be re-saved to enable caching.
  • Added options to Render panel for bypassing tracks’ gain/pan and effects during bouncing.

Behavior Changes

  • Rearranged file menu options related to importing projects and instrumentals.

Feature Enhancements

  • Replaced the existing rendering progress visualization in the piano roll with a more info-rich display in the time axis and arrangement.
  • Increased the hit area for dragging and resizing operations on notes, groups and phoneme boundaries.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed crashes when changing the tempo when using the ARA plugin in certain DAWs.
  • Fixed the plugin not reporting changes to the DAW when the externally saved project’s path has changed.
  • Fixed some rare cases of logging out despite an offline license being enabled under an intermittent internet connection.
  • Fixed changes to the settings not being saved when multiple instances of Synthesizer V Studio (e.g. both plugins and the standalone) are running at the same time.
  • Fixed the irregular order of note focus when shifting through selected notes with space/tab key while the lyrics editor is open.
  • Fixed the value display overlapping with the textbox when editing the value of a slider.

Note: this version switches the database backend to LMDB for better stability. As a result, all render results cached by the previous beta version will be discarded.

Feature Enhancements

  • Refined the UI for Effects panel.
  • Added an option to link room size and reflection parameters across all tracks.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed performance degradation when Room Sound simulation is enabled on Intel processors.
  • Fixed random crashes when moving a group to another track.
  • Fixed freezes when opening the same project in both standalone and plugins.
  • Fixed Voice-to-MIDI conversion results getting lost after undoing and then redoing the change in the standalone and instrument plugin.

This image above looks like 16 voices x4. But I do not see this possibility with the doubling effect. Only 16 voices max..

Edit:
I saw this with multitracks..

I’ve noticed two effect issues: reverb effect with a continuous group and another with a room effect. I’ve already opened 2 support tickets.

A very interesting feature with stereo placement and room effect. Maybe now missing the same with multiple voicebanks..

Is there a way to route each individual doubling to a separate output? I’d love to be able to place them individually using my own effects chain.

Request: bring back the “|a|” button from v1, that allows you to literally view the phonemes on the sound wave. I know that there is the phoneme timing panel that shows the phoneme, but the phoneme on the sound wave just makes it more readable.

… Plus it will take less vertical space (when phoneme timing panel is closed), which is dense as it is.

yeah, exactly  They should bring it back.

Synth V keeps getting better on each release. Big WoW.
Thanks DT, you help us to move our creation to a new high level.

Beta = many crashes on my DAW, back to previous version.
And a new problem related to the use and lack of dubbing of vocal groups on the same track (stereo issue).

Notes that directly modified the pitch curve using pitch points and drawings do not double. The voices were overlapped as many times as doubled, so it worked as if they were amplified rather than sung by multiple people.

Nice work and good improvements. Please note though that VST3 load time in Cubase 15.0.5 has increased to 100 seconds vs 11 seconds using 2.1.2.

The doubling is great. But more subtle, and controllable variations between the (up to 16) voices would be great.

Effects are also very good.

wow this sounds like a quite amazing update, thanks already to the Dreamtonics team

I’m relatively new to SynV and usually not hunting for betas, but this one sounds too tempting to not test it out already.
Question: can I install the beta right over the regular 2.1.2 version? And in case I’d run into problems, could I just run the v2.1.2 installer again to revert everything?
(I’m on Windows btw)

Yes, that’s exactly what I did (because of some crashes with Cubase 15).

Just purchased Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.2 and thought it was the beta version as I need to import XML files. Is there anyway to update to the beta version? I can’t get the links posted here to work

Thanks

That’s odd, don’t you get to that site? :backhand_index_pointing_down:

Thank you :+1:

So far I’m not really having issues while using the beta, but I got crashes when shutting it down.
Like the standalone is always crashing (with exception code 0xc0000409) when closing it.
When using the SynV vst3 plugin the behavior depends on the respective host, for example Cantabile or PluginBuddy are crashing when closing them (I mean of course after an instance of SynV has been used in the session).

DAWs like Bitwig or WaveformPro aren’t crashing on shutdown, probably because of their sandboxing systems. But I still had some odd behavior in both when I was loading projects with existing SynV v2.1.2 instances (nothing too serious though, just oddities).

I would assume this is very much related to the renewed cache system.
Like Cantabile or PluginBuddy maybe fail to shut down properly because the SynV cache is still actively running, therefore they are crashing. Something like that.
Still wouldn’t explain why it’s also happening with the native standalone… :person_shrugging:

I’ll probably go back to v2.1.2, the beta doesn’t seem to be stable enough here on my end. Ain’t sure yet if I’ll submit a ticket, hardly got time for that atm.

Apart from those issues, great update

(all happening on a Win10 OS)

You can now try the new beta 2, see the first message: Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.2.0b2
Fewer crashes this time, that would be..

It’s actually happening with beta 2, I never tested beta 1.

About half an hour ago I went back to the regular v2.1.2, because the beta2 also messed up a project in WaveformPro. It treated the beta2 like an entirely new plugin, so the track with SynV on it was lost entirely, no chance to recover the plugin state.
So in order to rescue the project I had to go back to v2.1.2.
Now it’s also not crashing anymore (standalone and plugin).
