(Movement 1)
What could this all mean?
Sensory overload
We need more nematodes please
The numbers
What could they all mean?
I cannot find my phone
Put my mind eased at home please
Why does it match the description
I don’t have any prescription
Somebody save me from Bibbidy Bobbidy
Running up clean the encryption
We gotta save the whole nation
Somebody hand us donations
Bibbidy Bobbidy run 'em up
Somebody find that Joe Nation
We just ran out of consciousness, innit
Whole lot of criminal gang stuff in this pitch
Yakety yakety, that’s all they say, helly
Just get me nobbly, What is this Chavez Ravine
Or some pink ditch
What could this all mean?
Sensory overload
We need more nematodes please
I see falling leaves
Nothing is set in stone
Xylophones play more tones please
(Movement 2)
I wake in this teacup
Was it all a bad dream after all?
I look to see what’s up
They’re about to have a ball
I hear the marching band
Coming from just a few yards away
I see them linking hands
Looks like a wedding under way
I hear the drums are pounding to the tempo
I thought I was not dreaming
Am I awake after all?
Feels too good to be a reality
What number did I roll?
I hear the drums are pounding to the tempo
I thought I was not dreaming
Am I awake after all?
Feels too good to be a reality
What number did I roll?
(Movement 3 - Presto Agitato)
Spin the wheel and watch, impeccable routine
Grind the steel and notch the fashion magazine
We deal in absolutes
Set background, sound unmute
Prepare the parachute
Oh my packed days
There’s no shame in suffering in the now
Since very likely future is better this way
Only time will tell of the where and how
Since wakey-wakey spreads all the cheddar that way
There’s no shame in suffering in the now
Since very likely future is better this way
Only time will tell of the where and how
Since wakey-wakey spreads all the cheddar that way
Feeling like looking from the outside looking inside
Even though I’m the one that built it all up
Feeling like looking from the outside looking inside
Even though I’m the one that built it all up
I find dirt pretty much at any place and
No one can say a dang thing to stop me
I find dirt pretty much at any place and
No one can say a dang thing to stop me
It’s time to brainstorm and find the means to get us all just outta here
It’s time to strike chords and find the means to get us all just in the clear
It’s time to click scores and find the means to get us all just past the sphere
It’s time to brainstorm and find the means to get us all just outta here
How dramatic will it ever come to be?
How ironic, what a tale for you and me
We deal in absolutes
Set background, sound unmute
Prepare the parachute
Oh my packed days
There’s no shame in suffering in the now
Since very likely future is better this way
Only time will tell of the where and how
Since wakey-wakey spreads all the cheddar that way
————————————————————————
Hi guys!
My name is WintermintP. I’m one of the lead guitarists from the band Remove the Defender.
I recorded all of the guitar parts in this song and I also came up with the lyrics and did the lyric video! Our first song featuring Kasane Teto turned out to be so good and we were coming up with crazy ideas suddenly so we just had to do this before Halloween ended! We made sure to use a 10-string guitar for this, which is what we’ve been doing ever since we got our 10-string guitar.
What makes this unique is that not a single metal song in the past ever followed the sonata format proper. This song has three movements, just like a sonata. If this didn’t end up being the mother of all boss songs on guitar, it’s pretty up there, just like a sonata. One of the three movements, the one that has the toughest parts, has an Exposition, Development, and Recapitulation, just like a sonata. It walks and quacks like a sonata. There were metal songs that had multiple movements but none of them followed the proper three-movement format of a sonata where one of the movements is supposed to have the Exposition, Development, and Recapitulation. This is the first!
Why did we do a song like this? We heard from a lot of our old fans that we used to do stuff that was a lot more neoclassical vs what we have been doing in recent times so we knew we had to up our game, but for the longest time we couldn’t even understand what made a sonata a sonata.
You see, there’s this friend of ours, kevinlyspirit, who challenged us to write a song in the “sonata format” back when we first met in 2015. The problem was, we had trouble understanding what that “sonata format” was even supposed to be. There is this one particular piece we kept hearing that was allegedly a sonata but we couldn’t hear any of what the video he linked was talking about. For the longest time we ended up telling him that it couldn’t be done.
Fast forward 11 years and we still couldn’t understand how the video he showed tied into a supposed sonata that’s supposed to have three entire movements and we couldn’t understand what was supposed to be on the three movements. We just couldn’t get it. After hearing a lot of complaints that our music stopped sounding so innovative and didn’t rival that of Dream Theater anymore, we mustered what little courage we could and asked around one final time.
Then, we finally got our answer.
So as it turns out, the reason why there was only video information on the whole Exposition Development Recapitulation thing was that while that exact format was supposed to be on the first movement, the second and third movements were supposed to be just lighthearted palate cleansers to lift people from all that heavy technically challenging ADHD stuff that they were hearing in the first movement. They were just fillers.
But then when we were hearing that one “sonata” that kept haunting us forever, we didn’t hear any of that?
Ask about the piece, and the revelation ignites the engine.
You see, the piece we were talking about was none other than Ludwig van Beethoven’s Opus 27 No 2. The reason why we couldn’t hear exactly what the people were talking about gave us the shocking answer that gave us all we needed to know to get the ball rolling.
As it turns out, the crazy “sonata” Exposition Development Recapitulation form stuff? Yea, Ludwig himself was actually putting out a groundbreaking sonata that rewrote the rules! He STARTED with the slow stuff to ease people into the piece and saved the haymaker for the third and final movement! You know what else we discovered?! That exact haymaker, Movement 3, was where the Exposition Development Recapitulation stuff was there all along! That exact “sonata allegro” format didn’t have to happen exactly on the first movement at all! It was just that ANY one of the movements had to have that format!
Now that the pieces are coming together, we finally got to work, and got it done just in time for Halloween. Just like Ludwig, we saved our haymaker for last too! Our haymaker, just like his, also has the exact sequences, Exposition, Development, and Recapitulation, just like a sonata!
Without further ado, there ya have it, Bob’s your uncle, the very first metal song that truly walks and quacks like a sonata. Bon Appétit!
