Workflow: Voice to MIDI Track Cleanup

This is my workflow for cleaning up my vocal track after using the Voice-to-MIDI conversion feature documented here 09 Voice-to-MIDI conversion | Synthesizer V Studio User Manual and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KLfuK35N0k

Once I finish the conversion I usually do NOT wish to quantize as I want the vocal timing to stay as it was recorded. BUT, whenever I make any changes such as moving a note I lose the connection between notes and it can be cumbersome to restore it. There may be a better way but this is how I do it for a quick solution!

  1. set Interface Scaling to 150% to make it easier to see connections
  1. turn off SNAP
  1. select the note you wanna move
  1. drag the note and it disconnects
  1. drag a vertical marker
  1. select the moved note and those on either side of it and choose Remove Short Silences from Modify menu
  1. everything is reconnected without quantization!

If you have a lot of notes to correct do steps 3-5 on every note and then Ctrl-A to select everything and do step 6!

You can try a script directly to move the key up or down without dragging it manually. This way there is no disconnection: Claire scripts

Thank you! I installed those scripts and it is def an improvement for moving up or down!

With snap turned off you can also simply click/highlight the note(s) you want (within a connected series of notes) - hold down SHIFT - and then drag the note to another pitch. It will freeze horizontal position - not move its timing, thus staying connected.

Unless I’m misunderstanding this thread which I only read very quickly.
