Thinking of buying, but UK English female?

Hello peeps, I was hoping that I could get one free voice as it is all I can afford right now and for that voice to be a UK English speaking woman… But as far as I can tell the only native English voice available with the initial purchase is Liam, whose voice I don’t like at all.

Does anybody know if the two other free optional (female) voices that are written for Asian languages cope with British English without an accent?

Do dreamtonics have any flexibility in there limited three voice choice?

Tx Mark.

There are no UK developers, and so not surprisingly, no UK singers. The closest you’ll get, I think, is Solaria (by Eclipsed Sounds). She is American, but would pass as an English singer. You will need to do some phoneme tweaking along the way for some words that are pronounced the Amercian way, but this is pretty straight forward, and you can set your own dictionary which might help for words you use often. Her accent is quite neutral.

Solaria isn’t free.

Hi, thanks… Surprising about the lack of English pronunciation and also the ambiguity of the purchase system, as it says here that you can have one voice of your choice, but then you have to choose from two asian and one english voice!

I think that is the choice available as the freebie. I went for Liam, as that is a good counterpoint for Solaria.

@themidimachine is right - no UK voices, but Solaria is probably your best bet having the least twang to her voice, but she’s chargeable unfortunately.

It’s easy to think that the whole world should speak the way the English do, but England is such a small country, and in a lot of places you can’t understand a word they’re saying

Dreamtonics is based in Japan.

Can’t help you with their marketing speak. I imagine they have license agreements with the singers used to train their AI on that limits what they can give away. For sure, that could be clearer, but hey, at least they wrote it in your language, rather than making you translate it from theirs. :man_shrugging:

I haven’t tried it myself, but…

You can download free ‘lite’ versions that don’t expire and some of these are designated English voices such as:

  • Eleanor Forte
  • Tsurumaki Maki

These are voicebanks made for SV1 - but may work in SV2 though they won’t offer much in the way of tweaking and you can’t apply cross-lingual features either.

Download link here: (https://resource.dreamtonics.com/download/)

Also to be noted the Chinese folder also has SV1 project files so you can open these and ‘learn’ a thing or two… maybe (?)

It’s also very easy to make assumptions about what others “find easy”. There is no “should” involved here… but English, as spoken by the English who use “received pronunciation” or “BBC English” is regarded as English without an accent, and to my (non-British) ears, is the most pleasant and easiest to understand. It is the accent used on the Underground for it’s clarity, and is also used by classical music vocalists in the UK. Received Pronunciation is used by only about 2 percent of the British population, and for me, as it is the clearest, non-accented English, as spoken by the people who invented the language, it would be my voice of choice, so it’s sad it’s not represented amongst the 20 odd voices on Synthesizer V.

thanks mate, i may give that a go, though will probably be frustrated by not having the controls of the v2 voices vs the free ones…

LOL.

I’d be curious to know of any pop singer in the last 20 years who uses received pronunciation, other than those taking the mickey or for theatrical effect. I bet the proportion of those who use it vs. those who don’t is pretty tiny.

Anyway, as I said, Solaria can definitely pull it off. Now that I think of it, I think Kevin could do a reasonable impression of it too, though I think it would be less convincing to me than Solaria, who I thought was English, when I first bought the voicebank… and I spent the first 31 years of my life there.
I can’t really think now, but Asterian might be able to do a decent job of it too, since it’s based on a classical singer (though an American one).

fella, you make a lot of incorrect presumptions. Who said ANYTHING about pop music? Tx I have jotted down Solaria as a possible. I wonder if the $149 which comes with one paid voice… could that be Solaria and would I still be able to choose one of the three possible bundled voices (Liam) ?

Solaria is an Eclipsed Sounds voice, which you can’t even currently buy through Dreamtonics (you used to be able to buy Eclipsed voices through Dreamtonics, and I suspect you will be able to at some point in the future, but not currently). So, the one voice bundle would not include Solaria (or Asterian). You can see the voices available for this, when you go on to the $149 bundle. Kevin is included if that helps.

Synth-V has competition too. You could look there. Especially if your chosen genre is classical, rather than folk or something else. Personally, I think Synth-V is the best quality option out there for AI based vocals, but it isn’t your only option.

Thanks for the insights, I’m new to synth audio, and did not know some of the voices are made by third party outfits… I will have a little look around at alternatives too, thanks.

BTW I’ve now bought Synthesizer V, probably with Liam, and will probs get Solaria separately… tx.

Solaria, is probably your best bet at the moment as others have said. Over time, more third party voices will turn up, I’m sure. Eclipsed sounds have either just released or are about to release two new voices. Not sure what they are yet.

With V2, it is nice to get an English voice in Liam. With V1, you got Mai and had no other choices.

Natalie is another voice you might want to listen to demos of on youtube.

Good luck.

Thank you for the response, I have already opted for Solaria…
