The Newer Opera & Choir Voices Add Unparalleled Realism to Mockups

Can Synthesizer V sing opera?

A few years ago—before Dreamtonics and its partners released dedicated operatic and choral voices—I might have answered, “Not convincingly.” How times have changed! With the release of Felicia, Galenaia, Yun Hua, Lang Chuan, and Choir Voices, operatic and choral composers can now make more realistic mockups with Synthesizer V than with any other product currently on the market, even AI.

When the music teachers at San Gabriel Academy commissioned me to compose an opera based on the biblical story of Ruth, no dedicated operatic voices had yet been released, so I used Synthesizer V’s pop voices and my orchestral sample libraries to create rehearsal mock-ups for the student soloists, choir, and orchestra. The results were sometimes stylistically incongruous, but even those mock-ups communicated far more than sampled “oohs” and “aahs” could.

Recently, however, the era of using pop voices to stand in for operatic voices ended. When I purchased Felicia, Galenaia, Yun Hua, Lang Chuan, and all three Choir Voices, the quality of my mockups increased substantially. See the link below to hear an example.

I salute the “wizards” at Dreamtonics and Eclipsed Sounds. You have made life considerably easier for classical, operatic, and choral composers to communicate with the musicians for whom they write!
