I’m so glad the forum is back up and running again and it’s great to see old faces returning.
I’ve just finished my first track using Oscar and Noa Hex who I purchased recently. I’ve found Oscar to have a fantastic, airy timbre great for intimate and emotional leads and he sings really well in English despite not being a native English voice bank. Noa Hex is a bit better for power vocals and has a really varied and versatile set of vocal modes, despite being not as bright and airy.
So, here’s my latest track “The Last Day of Summer” using Oscar as the lead and Noa to reinforce the choruses.
I hope you like it and would love to know what you think.
It works just as it is and I know it’s easy to pick at somebody else’s work but if I were to offer anything then maybe more power in the chorus vocal? I do like that airy verse vocal just as is.
I wasn’t totally sure but sometimes when listening I do feel that myself, that the chorus vocals are still lacking a bit of power. I might go back into the session and see if I can do some tension automation or something to give it more impact. That’s great feedback, thank you!
This is excellent! I bought Oscar voice recently and heard several songs with that voice but this one is the best I came across. Also, great production.
Beautiful song. Well done music and production. The only thing I would look at is maybe boosting Noa a bit in the chorus. Nice interaction and I wanted to hear it better.
Thank you very much for the comments, guys! I totally agree, the choruses just don’t quite cut it.
I’ve revisited the session today and added some tension automation for the Noa vocals, tweaked the mix and also added a higher vox part at the end. It cuts through a little better now. Here’s the new version:
Well, that’s it for me, that is the final cut - excellent.
The only hyper-crit I can suggest is when he takes a breath, maybe a bit ‘close mic’ loud and sometimes far too short. I think I might sacrifie those where the time available doesn’t allow what I would consider a realistic duration?
Yes you’re probably right about the breaths, they’ve become pretty loud especially in the verses due to the compression. The length are perhaps a bit short in places but I did program quite a few that way as I wanted it to give it a sense of anxiety and urgency.
