NEWS : Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.2.0 & New Choir Voices collections

Yes, I just saw the new choir voices yesterday.

Unfortunately for me it was after I purchased solo sopranos baritone and bass voices.

I will try them starting today.

Yes, I can make choirs by separating the unisons into separate tracks and manually editing the timing and vowels. I requested timing randomization early in the beta. They gave it to us but only at the cost of buying more voices.

Even if they adding script commands for timing, it would speed up the process for solo choirs and harmonies.

You can do it with AI retakes. Manually editing the timing is not needed. You can go into as much detail as you like, but there are already plenty of tools in Synth-V to speed up workflow, even if you’re making choirs out of individual voices. If you can’t justify the expense of one of the choirs (I’m not sure whether I can), then you have options. But no question, the workflow of using the choirs and the result is excellent.

[edit: I caved and bought one of the choirs. The trial ended, and I realized I couldn’t do without it :)]

I tried AI retakes in the beginning and the timing of the choir was just too tight.
Yes there are tools to do it manually but it just takes a lot more time.

I did just download choir three to test in hymnal style songs. It took a little bit of cleaning up and resetting to get things back to a default but choir three did a convincing job of creating a choir!
I will buy at least one of the choirs before the demo is over. Just wished I hadn’t waste all the money on solo SATB voices.

I may be wrong but have you noticed that there’s no Scripting commands for timing?
Even if they gave us one macro level timing control in the Unison area it would be wonderful.

I’m trying the preview of the Choir voices, and it crashes latest Reaper every time I adjust the number of singers.

just wanted to say that the choirs have been my way into SynthV software. I was always sceptical until this release came out and now I am going to have a lot of work converting at least 20 choral and other vocal works (particularly fairytales with orchestra). Everything works very well in Dorico – even gradual tempo changes which are not supported by MusicXML export properly don’t usually take a lot of time to calculate. Anyway, congratulations on a release which has enabled me and my friends to already hear several of my works in a completely new light and certainly increases the chance of a live performance.

Yes… the choirs are a great addition. How do you handle the tempo changes from Dorico?

my wife says they are a ā€œquantum leapā€ above anything previously available. And others have made similar comments. The great thing is you have everything from soloists (several are very good) to a full choir available. And Latin is no problem using Spanish My first conversion was actually German – more tricky but doable if you like an Austrian accent  (of course native German support would be very handy).

As for the gradual tempo changes, I look at the start and end tempi of the gradual in the Dorico key editor and write in a value in the middle (or occasionally just slightly less) at the beginning of where it starts. However, most of my gradual tempo changes take place during instrumental sections - if it’s during singing then additional intermediate tempi may have to be added. The odd fermata is a bit more tricky but they too have a value and duration.

as an example of what I’ve already converted, one two might be interested to dip into my Requiem. This has a variety of choral textures with solos in Lux Aeterna and Libera me. It can be found under the sacred music section at the link below. In due course I expect to convert all these works to the new choirs. The little sheet icon gives brief notes with individual movement timings.

I’ve now added my Mass in Eb which uses choir 2 with 8 to a part throughout. Again, I’m very happy with the results which are a marked improvement on what I was able to get with EastWest Hollywood Choir previously.

erhhmm forgive me if i am asking, why is it i can’t edit per note language, anyone knows how to change the language on a single note/lyric only, i cannot do it with these new choir voices.

I only know English, so I’m not really familiar (thus, this may not be the only way to do it), but if you split the ā€œgroupā€ up, you can apply a different language to different groups on the same part.

You can also set languages to individual notes in the note properties panel.

  • my bad, i did not realised i changed it on the wrong panel

for anyone who has been dipping in, I have now converted all the sacred works and all but one of my fairytales (in Hansel and Gretel the children are prominent and I happen to like the Symphonic Choirs children so didn’t do that) to using voices from the choirs, so there’s a fair amount of pretty varied stuff to test out if you’re still on the fence about the choirs – or are curious about my music. That’s the end of phase 1 – I hadn’t expected to do so much at once!
