New Mix by Synchro: Mai - Prog Metal/Rock Epic "Haunting"

I am excited to present “Haunting” to you in a great new mix by Synchro. I uploaded “Haunting”, my 20-minutes song, some weeks ago. It earned more clicks and likes than I had hoped for, but the mix was obiously not good. Synchro offered me to remix the song. I’d like to thank him so much for his work!
I cannot edit the original post any longer, so I opened this new one here.

Again: the images are no video, not even a substitute for a video. They contain the lyrics and the indication of the part that is actually played, for a better orientation.Since youtube allows, without subscription, only a maximum song length of 15 minutes, I had to cut the song into two sections. This is the reason why I’m giving also the soundcloud audio link:

https://soundcloud.com/search?q=Mattis%20Haunting

The song is divided into six sections:
i. Winter’s evening (some kind of exposition) 0:01
ii. Haunting (instrumental) 0:57
iii. The cabin and the countryside (verses 1&2 and some kind of chorus) 5:52
iv. Who’s the one? (instrumental, development) 10:04
v. The hometown and the forest’s edge (verse 3 and chorus, recapitulation) 13:51
vi. Forsaken (recapitulation of i. and finale) 16:43

It’s a very sad story about love, loss, jealousy, fidelity and endurance. Do not expect “spooky” or even “horror”-music of part ii., it’s only about expressing uncertainty and unrest. In part iv., I tried to depict the protagonist going mad about not knowing the answer to the question: “Who’s the one that you are crying for?” that she has posed.

The remix gives a real new life to the song, it’s way more that a simple update. Hats off to @Synchro for the great job !

Thanks @Arthelion ! It was quite a challenge - a big, complex track in a genre I’ve never worked in before. I offered as I felt it was so ambitious, but so much was being lost in the mix and I thought I could do better. I learned a lot too, particularly about dealing with so many tracks, trying to figure out what could be turned down rather than up!

Yep, I’ve learned too from experience that sometimes in a mix, less is better than more!

The sound has improved wonderfully in this version and although I, an old tired man, can still listen to 20th century music without remastering, I enjoy listening to this amazing version here. If someone ever compliments me on my song, perhaps a larger part of the praise should go to my friend - professional sound engineer “KAKAXA”, owner of the studio “3bees”, where I go to do mixing and mastering. Although I know what kind of sound I want, without KAKAXA I wouldn’t be able to get it to the level KAKAXA can do it…

I don’t know whether you know Hermann Hesse, but he was an author who was read widely among our generation at least in Germany, so you might well be acquainted with his books. (The name of the first rock band ever in my hometown was “Siddartha” after a book from Hesse.) In the book “Der Steppenwolf” (yes, the band of “Born to be wild” chose as its name the book from Hesse, and I believe, Kansas’ “Journey from Mariabronn” is inspired by Hesse’s “Narziss und Goldmund”) the main figure hates the radio, as it mutilates the sound of Mozart’s divine music. Later, when the main figure has become wiser, he states that, if Mozart’s music is divine, the bad sound cannot diminish its value, because it’s just a means of transportation of the real thing. So there’s no need for someone of our generation to get unwise again!   (Though, of course, we are not Mozart…)

Sounds good, a shame you private the original, would be good study material:)
Synchro did a great job!

(edit)
This melody sticks in my head each time I hear it - don’t know why - irritating:\ :face_with_monocle:

He, I didn’t even see the connection to your title:)

For me the main melody is where she sings (which continues thru the song)
But I think I know why it hits for me, a little strange path
The song from Boney M (Yes Boney M:) - “Rivers of Babylon”
I always have found this line …
“By the Rivers of Babylon” - such a powerful sentence with a perfect flow
And in your song she start with “Met my love on a winter’s evening”
It has this same flow & feel to me - that’s the trigger I guess
The intro of RiversOB just hooked more into me then I knew
What can I say, the brain is a strange thing

Now stop haunting me:)

Granted! Thou shalt be free again!

(Any compliment about my lyrics is a great relief and joy for me, as I am from Germany and was rather insecure when I first posted something here.)
