Logic and Synth V -- How To Use MIDI Keyboard

EDIT:
It works now! (Maybe cuz of latest update?!?) But it has to be done a certain way:

  1. Hit the keypad * with SV plugin open to start SV recording. The timeline starts to move.
  2. Hit Play in Logic. The timeline resets to where you have it set in Logic and it plays while SV records.

I’m so happy – this will speed up my workflow since I’m now able to play my keyboard directly into SV. Thanks for disagreeing with me!!!

ARA does not work in Logic, even in Rosetta. This is the ONLY way to get MIDI notes into SynthV:

  1. On a new instrument track, record a MIDI track with the melody you want Synth V to sing.
  2. Export that MIDI file from that track (not audio).
  3. Open Synth V on a separate instrument track.
  4. From WITHIN the Synth V plugin, use the import function to import the MIDI file you made in step #2.
  5. You may have to manually adjust the Synth V track to the correct tempo, or all the notes will be off.
  6. Then you add the lyrics to the melody.

You can edit this track within the Synth V plugin – cut, paste, move notes, add notes with the pencil, etc.

It’s a bit of a workaround, but the results are worth it. I think Dreamtonics should spend resources to make Logic work better with it. Logic is the most popular DAW in the world and Synth V is the best voice plugin in the world!

Unfortunately, you CANNOT record MIDI notes into the Synth V plugin with your keyboard. The above method is the only way to get MIDI into it (besides drawing each note one by one).

It is very unfortunate that this is the only way it works for you. For myself, I’ve been recording MIDI in Synth V plug in and Logic just playing it from keyboard.

Right - MIDI input works fantastic by playing - and is the only way I do it (being a musician and songwriter all the notes are actually hand created by me). And ARA does work fine in Rosetta however I don’t use it (to simplify things).

Well, I must thank you for replying. I don’t know why (perhaps it was the latest update), but now recording via playing the MIDI keyboard works within Synth V!

But it has to be done a certain way:

  1. Hit the keypad * to start SV recording. The timeline starts to move.
  2. Hit Play in Logic. The timeline resets to where you have it set in Logic and it plays while SV records.

Hi and Very Happy New Year

Thanks for letting us know that it now works for you. You have actually got it working the opposite way that I’ve been doing as I have first started Logic and only after that hit Rec on SV. My way works if you don’t need to start recording on SV immediately but your way is better since you will be able to record at once

And for disagreeing with you - you’re welcome

So it is not possible to use a midi keyboard to play around with the melodies (using the default phoneme)? It would be nice to be able to do that.
