could we have a “dismiss all” or “mark all as read”? or better, selecting the category and marking those as “all read”? there are many new topics (some redundant) which i would like to have cleared so my list of unread topics is shorter and more focused…
- Open a forum, in this case I have the “Synthesiser V Studio” forum open
- At the top of the page is ‘Select All’, or you can select individual or combinations of threads with their check-boxes
- Click the ‘Dismiss’ button

i don’t have that functionality on my view. maybe there is some permission level or setting that needs to be set to enable it?
There are no permission settings involved. In your screenshot I see a blue dot by the Synthesiser V Studio category (new, unread posts), if (when) that is the case you should be able to select that category and, as long as there are threads unread, the buttons and selector buttons should appear.
Note that if you open a thread these controls will not show until you re-open the whole category to list only thread titles.

thanks, but no, there is no option to bulk select (i tried the keystroke “shift”,“b”) or other means to “check the box” because there are no boxes. see my screen
shot from 15 min ago…
now if i open one of the topics and do shift b, i get a light blue popup to select all or cancel. but no option to dismiss etc…
These priority links (new, unread) only appear if you’ve read overdue topics. But if you read regularly, these new links never appear. Take a week off from this forum and see!

I am not sure that is true, I now have a few posts listed as unread but cannot reliably predict when the selection controls will appear, I open a category and the controls are absent, go smewhere else and return - the controls appear!
Maybe it’s a forum feature that is a bit flakey, maybe I am missing something.
I have noticed that it can occasionally appear as only a single icon “Toggle Bulk Select Controls” that needs selecting to reveal the controls:-
Currently, the controls are most reliably appearing when selecting ‘New’ or ‘Unread’ filters.

yes, i had the boxes once when i selected “hot” but not since. and as this is a very active forum now, if i miss even 2 days, i’m swamped with unread topics and responses… so having a reliable means of marking stuff read helps me keep organized… 
now today - i check the new section - found the bulk icon, selected and dismissed all. then went to the hot section. it has the checkboxes and no option to do anything…
definitely need something to make this easier as all the replies seems to be outside of the “mark as read” process, only new topics, or on one occasion, hot topics. as Mechie noted, it’s not a reliable means of handling posts…
