Upgrading Dreamtonics voices, that’s a reasonable request. For the other voice vendors, I would expect an upgrade price - but not a full re-purchase.
Except that it’s Dreamtonics that’s doing the encoding, not the vendor. If you’ve got the license key, you can download the latest version of all the voices (no matter who the vendor) from the Dreamtonics site.
So it’s Dreamtonics that’s eating the costs, not the vendor.
Of course, there’s the cost of updating their site, and dealing with this whole V2 thing. But that’s an ongoing cost of advertising. There’s no need to pass that on as an upgrade cost to the end user, as we can bypass them completely.
This is true for all new versions so far but relies on the existing vocal sample recordings having sufficient data for what ever new ‘tricks’ we will be offered?
I do wonder if some of the magic from Vocoflex is being used, especially looking at that “virtual joystick” X-Y control, interpolating between sample types rather than discrete voices.
Namm2025: Namm 2025
We can see Avid working with Dreamtonics integration into protools 2025. But already with SynthV version 2!
I will do once it has been released - thanks to Dreamtonics for all the hard work !
- I’m particularly looking forward to the phoneme panel to control pronunciation with even greater ease.
- The splitting of the vocal modes into understandable chunks is a great idea and will lead to wonderful flexibility in expression and timbres.
I presume support for other languages like French will be considered in due course? At least, I hope so.
I also request that a fuller phoneme list be available in the current language offerings to cater for different accents: British, Scottish, Irish, Australian even Indian English.
In the belief that someone from Dreamtonics will read this, I conclude by saying “Thank you for engaging with your customers!”
I liked, in order:
- open mouth parameter
- unified pitch editing with marking point move (excellent!)
- detailed phoneme timing editor (much easier)
- added parameter to retakes and fast XY
- fast, pratically real-time rendering
During the video I went back to be sure that they kept (and yes they kept) the vocal modes as parameters, since I use them all the time to create variation in the expression (a bold character that just for a sentence sings softly is fantastic to me). Also the director likes vibrato but I don’t, and I’m glad that the vibrato slider works and is still there, so we can choose.
i wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for PT to integrate SV correctly anytime soon. they’re still struggling with Acoustica and Melodyne to get the integrations working… but since i’m on Sonar i expect SV will work pretty much right out of the gate, and if not, updates on Sonar would be available within a month… since i mainly only do standalone, i’m also not at the whim of any DAW to properly integrate it… LOL
You are a lucky guy With my DAW to avoid crashes, I do a “Save project” faster than my shadow
no worries, crtl-s is my reflex action whenever i pause for more than 1 second on just about any application. i must hit save 500x in any given 10 min regardless of how “stable” an application is.
This all looks great. One question about the upgrade path (for Synth V and voice banks) - will it be available to everyone with a V1 license - or exclusive to only those who bought V1 direct?
Asking because I was once declined support for license/installs issues on product not purchased directly. (3rd party seller)
When can we buy the upgrade?
The activation codes sold through various channels are managed by the sellers themselves, so you need to contact the corresponding after-sales support for products purchased in different places.
I just hope the ARA plugin that scans a current vocal can detect as many of the new parameters as possible like “Mouth Opening “, “Phoneme Timing”, “Pitch”, “Timbre”, “Pronunciation”, “Vibrant, “Refined”, “Stable”, “Raw”, “Emphasis”.
Dreamtronics haven’t finished development of Synthv2 yet, it could be days… or months before this new version is released.
I don’t think it will be very long because now Dreamtronics will not sell anything and their partners will not sell many voicebanks until V2 comes out.
Soon!
Hi Bobox,
French was mentioned last year… I also hope that this language, which I’m eagerly waiting for, is on the agenda! Fingers crossed.
@Scimation It does seem reasonable that French should be included. Maybe this is more driven by the voicebank developer and not Dreamtonics per se?
Quoi qu’il en soit, je l’espère vivement !
They could fix this just by announcing the upgrading route.
Now, I won’t be spending a dime until that is clarified. If they announce tomorrow “any VBs and Synth V 1 licenses purchased from today will be granted a free upgrade to V2 once that is released” people will have nothing to worry about and start buying without fears.
I’m willing to pre order, take my money! (for a nice discount).
And the 3rd parties are poorly equipped to do anything technical at all as I found out quite some time ago - which is why I asked the question. If upgrade path is only distributed/verified through Dreamtonics direct - 3rd party purchasers may be left out.
