V2: Phoneme Duration & Strength control - REMOVED?!

I recently upgraded to Synthesizer V Studio Pro (V2) and found that the ability to directly adjust individual phoneme duration and strength is gone. I’m frankly in disbelief; this is a major step backwards.

Fine-grained phoneme control, as in V1 (Synthesizer V Studio Pro), was essential for natural, expressive vocals. Without it, achieving precise nuances is much harder. This might force me back to V1.

Opening V1 projects in V2 automatically enables “evenly split note into syllables,” destroying previous custom phoneme timings and intensities.

I’m using Synthesizer V Studio Pro for both V1 and V2.

I honestly cannot understand why this crucial feature was removed. It was fundamental to how I (and I suspect many others) used SynthV.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, the Timing and Phonemes V1 approach is completely replaced by the new bottom panel for better visual control. However, this means a complete redo for older projects.

Oh, I got it! Thanks for the clarification.
It’s definitely a bit of a “first-time shock” since I was so used to the V1 method, but I can see how this new panel could be more user-friendly once I get used to it.

Yes, I really think so! I have to practice.

I live and die by individual phoneme duration and strength. I used to complain (a long, long time ago) that Eleanor sounded like a school teacher with all the admonishing hard T sound. Now I can make any voice as lazy as I wan. I was just reminiscing as I dropped down both intensity and duration of a phoneme with glee.

Now it’s been taken away!? - Crap! (there better be a good reason)

I think I will be staying with 1.x

No, it’s even better, it’s visual with the mastery of volumes and timing.

Not here, I ovoid the parameter panel and really was nice having the menu open and going through the song fixing all the issues by clicking the word and adjusting quite quickly what I wanted and move on. I use the parameter panel when I need to mute. That’s just me.

I’m only just starting to tinker with v2, but this issue has me confused.

How do I alter the strength of a phoneme using the new box? I must be missing something obvious…but the online help manual didn’t make it clear to me.

you can drag the phoneme parameter line up/down

The phoneme panel is still present in SV2. It is even easier to use and makes it clear when you change duration by giving control over which surrounding phonemes it will “steal” that duration from:

Thank you for the info. Very helpful.

It’s true. I always used the old phoneme control menu in V1, but when I set say duration 120% I had to wait the render and see where in time the phoneme would move and then perhaps correct again. Now in V2 it’s much easier because I can slide the time directly under the wave. Also almost inesistent t at the end, you simply drag up to have it heard: much easier!

I have plenty of reservations about V2, but this new way of managing Phonemes does seem to be a big improvement and more intuitive that V1.

If only the other V2 functions were as impactful …
