Just got SAROS 2 and the lisp on every “S” is appalling and unusable, also he seems to roll most every “R” too.
Anyone got any suggestions? It’s laughable
Sorry for asking a dumb question, but you verified the language is set to English, correct?
I can’t check it myself because I don’t have Saros 2.
Could post the wav i recorded but dont know how to on here…how do i do that
Post it to YouTube or SoundCloud, post the link here. Or post a WeTransfer link.
The presence of the rolled R sounds like the language is configured to Spanish.
I’ll check that, but the rest of the song that doesn’t have S or R in the words sounds OK.
I also find that any redrawing of the pitch/vib line on a note causes that altered section (dark green) to be noticeably louder than the surrounding sections. Really annoying, hope they fix that cos it’s a pain having to compensate with the loudness parameter.
Tonnes of other problems, not impressed generally…
Definitely english.
He also has this annoying breath noise at the end of notes which i cannot remove, all very ‘modern’ affectation type thing which i dislike anyway.
They should rename him ‘Tharoth’…
Does the V1 of him do the same i wonder?
Dreamtonics suggested playing with phonetics and retakes, but of course makes no difference. Quite annoyed with them for releasing such an awful unusable voicebank.
Generally i think their ok for bv’s, more reverb and back in the mix, but for a lead part, exposed and needing some real soul and emotion, just not cutting it. Only Natalie sounds passable for me…
Sorry, you seem to be having some ‘weird’ issues with this voicebank.
I can’t seem to replicate your difficulty with ‘English’ set for Saros.
There are two places to check that ‘Spanish / something else’ is not set:
- In the Main Voice Panel - icon looks like a green microphone
- In the Notes Panel - icon looks like two semi-quavers (eighth notes) setting for individual notes - perhaps you need to select all your notes and make sure this latter place is set to ‘English’ also?
- If you’ve split your voice up into individual groups - then you have to check these for each group !
Saros is surely made out of a native Spanish speaking voice provider. In SynthesizerV he uses the English structure which is in the software, but he has been recorded from a Spanish based pronunciation with all that what may result out of it when you speak a foreign language.
Care to share a screenshot? If it displays the phoneme rr
, then it’s in Spanish.
I even tried mixing English and Spanish in the same track - but no, this voicebank responds as expected.
Don’t really know what to suggest, other than try a fresh project !
In fact, I would say that his rolled ‘r’ (perro) is not as strong as it is on Galenaia. She has a wonderful ‘rrrrrrrr’.
Just typed in the exact phrase as you have here, and yes, mine sounds identical, but can’t you hear the lisp and the r’s almost becoming w’s…? Sounds awful to me. I’m trying to write something where the vocal isn’t drowned out by the backing, so it is exposed, but isn’t that the point, they are supposed to be authentic enough to carry that situation. Natalie and Solaria seem the only ones that are even close to cutting it for a ‘real’ vocal.
I guess it depends on the type of music that works with these voices. Still a million miles from a real singer, but good enough for backing vocals.
Interesting? I’m not having that difficulty on my system. I’m listening through headphones (Stenneiser HD 558) - just swopped them over for the Sony MDR-Z1R (sounds just as okay) - do you have some kind of filter on to alter the sound to emulate a particular auditorium?
I’m running SV2 inside of Cubase Pro 14 - if that has any bearing on the issue?
No. I’m on Logic. The clip you sent am sure is fine, but it sounds just the same on my plugin when i create it.
Maybe I’m just hearing it different to you, there is a clear impediment in pronunciation and some of his word endings are so breathy which seens embedded in the sample, all my modes are set to default. Ill just have to use ‘THAWOTH’ for overdubs where there are no discernable S’s and R’s…shame, he’s quite soulful. They need more soul/black voices on here like Natalie with some oomph!!
Most importantly, the vib needs to be 100% controllable, that slider is useless…
I’m not hearing the issue you’re reporting in the examples posted.
Could you post an audio example and screenshot of the notes?
Turns out I do have Saros II, and his /r/ seems clear to me.
Obviously /r/ and /w/ and phonetically close (they are both liquid consonants), but there are mitigations available. For example:
I’ve prefixed words starting with /r/ with a very short /er/ to emphasize it, and added an /r h/ to the end of the word to try and get a stronger /r/ sound.
Here’s SAROS (Saros 2) showing off all his vocal modes (en Español) - the only parameter change is Timbre (Not Pronunciation, Not Pitch) !
Yes, or should i say Yeth…
Fine in Spanish, but unfortunately prohibitive in English, doesn’t work for stuff I’m doing, the lisp stands out a mile…
h isn’t a valid phoneme, should be hh
one option is look into the aspiration settings to output as separate channel (DAW) or file (standalone app) to see if that makes it more controllable (as well as de-essing etc).
Appreciate your help, but have tried everything. Can’t use him for anything with exposed vocal with any ‘s’ s in the lyric, just so obvious lisp, almost comic really. Try ‘Aint no sunshine when she’s gone’…!!! Only usable where backing covers it up, hopeless for anything intimate or exposed. To be honest, haven’t found one male voice that cuts it for my material. Female ones much better IMO…
