So, I tried everything. Doesn’t work for me (it continues to say I have espeak-ng not installed on my system, but I “brew installed” it several times)…
this error may occur due to architecture mismatch or missing library path. The root cause is that Phonemizer cannot locate the libespeak-ng.dylib library , especially on Apple Silicon Macs where architecture mismatches (arm64 vs x86_64) or non-standard library paths prevent auto-detection.
Find the correct path using
find /opt/homebrew -name "libespeak-ng*.dylib" 2>/dev/null
Common paths are
/opt/homebrew/lib/libespeak-ng.dylib/opt/homebrew/Cellar/espeak-ng/1.52.0/lib/libespeak-ng.1.dylib
Then set the environment variable:
export PHONEMIZER_ESPEAK_LIBRARY='/opt/homebrew/lib/libespeak-ng.dylib'
and replace /opt/homebrew/lib/libespeak-ng.dylib with the path you get from the find command. To make this permanent, add the line above to your ~/.zshrc (or ~/.bash_profile) and reopen the terminal.
I will add this information to the README later. Thanks for pointing this out.
Best regards,
Martin
I have updated the README.md now and also added installation scripts for Windows and macOS. If you encounter any issues with them, please let me know.
Hi @honki-bobo
I raised an issue on your github repository: Error in first test · Issue #5 · honki-bobo/synthv_translator · GitHub
When executing python synthv_translator.py “Hallo Welt” as suggested, I get
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “synthv_translator.py”, line 66, in
syllable_ipa_list: list[str], word_ipa: str
TypeError: ‘type’ object is not subscriptable
Installation completed without errors. What am I missing?
I was on vacation for a few weeks and didn’t get to look at GitHub for some time.
To me it looks like your python version is too old. The script uses type annotations, which are only supported in python 3.9+. If possible, try a newer python version. I recommend 3.11 or higher. Nevertheless I have implemented a quick fix, which will work in python 3.7+. You can pull the latest code from GitHub.
Best regards,
Martin
Will test asap - though not before next Monday.
