Perhaps if enough customers ask for it; Dreamtonics will add a vibrato rate slider. I certainly would welcome it !!!
Iām with the OP. This āupdateā is totally misguided. Why on earth would any update take away features from an earlier version? And give us less manual control than we used to have over modifications? For example, the global vibrato slider was such a useful feature and I used it all the time as I donāt write music that requires much vibrato. And the Pitch Control never ends up the way I draw the pitch curve. Most of the time, it ends up as some whacky, weird pitch curve that sounds awful. Why canāt I just draw it the way I like anymore?? And the voices I use are not as good as before. Hayden (my favorite) doesnāt have the same rich tone and has an accent now.
Songwriting is an art. Using AI to create the vocals in the first place is great, although not perfect. Thatās why I need total control to be able to modify everything myself and SV1 was pretty good at that. Sadly, the control was taken away in SV2 and now the AI engine thinks it knows better than I do what my vocals should sound like. It doesnāt.
We are all different when it comes to taste and what we want the final vocal to sound like. AI should not make global decisions for everyone when it comes to artistic choices. Thatās a deal breaker.
Iāll probably keep the update as it wasnāt that expensive, but until we at least get back all the features that were lost in SV1, Iāll keep using SV1 and explore other options.
Yes @daf I couldnāt agree more with your sentiments.
I have been amazed at how good V1 works - I had a Vocaloid licence some years back, and I was astonished to find how much further on Synth V had taken the concept.
I do all my work on SV in Cubase as a VST, and it is a rock solid piece of software. Far more exalted apps can crash CB 14 Pro, but SV has never let me down.
The facilities available to compose and produce vocals are as good as you would find anywhere, yet the developers have taken it upon themselves to remove some integral functions, either to replace with sub standard versions or lose them altogether.
Taste is something no-one can account for, but to my ears Solaria has regressed to the point of being unusable, and @daf has a similar issue with his own favourite. How can that be?
As for removing the global vibrato control ⦠how ANYONE can use the default setting and hear it as ānaturalā is beyond me. But at least a simple slide down to 20% or so and everything immediately improves. And they remove this altogether??
Iām also not unhappy with the upgrade price, so Iām happy wait it out and see if there are improvements coming down the line. V1 is such an excellent piece of software I am optimistic that V2 will come good.
I am still shocked and disappointed that they REMOVED FEATURES! I could load voice presets in V1 and even create, save and load my own but now that is GONE! WTF???
They say theyāve āremoved the needā for ālaborious tuningā but they shouldnāt remove the option. I LIKE tuning by hand!
Same here. And unless the AI can read my mind and know the exact tuning I want, they need to bring it back. Otherwise SV2 is useless to me.
I canāt believe just how poor this V2 release has been in every aspect. Each of us have different needs and requirements (and opinions!) and somehow Dreamtonics have managed to alienate almost all of its V1 supporters in one way or another.
LOL YEAH! Donāt they realize that Synthesizer V took off probably in part because people were jumping ship from Vocaloid, after Yamaha screwed up V5 so badly by making it hand holdy and prioritizing plug-and-play type use. Itās almost like theyāre trying to make SV2 as bad as V6 (vocaloid 6 is still worse tho). like whats with companies thinking we want AI to do all the fun stuff for us and not let us play anymore XD at this rate openutau with diffsinger is gonna surpass SV2 since they canāt even boast a better editor anymore.
I have Vocaloid 6 and can get acceptable results from it using the 16 included AI voices - but the 4 V5 voices included are just awful - Iāve never managed to get anything decent out of them. Iāve stuck with V6 as I bought it before discovering Synth V - now I have both and use whichever, whenever I want.
Synth V 2 shows promise, but too much work at the moment to get even reasonable results!
10 days or so from my earlier comments, and I have to say the reintroduction of saving voice presets and the otehr various bug fixes has me warming to V2 in a way I didnāt think would happen so quickly.
That, together with the unearthed vibrato script (see link below)
Has made me change my mind. I still think Solaria II āout of the boxā sounds dreadful compared to V1, but a bit of tweaking and the ability to save presets has brought that one back to life.
A convert and true believer again ![]()
Hand drawn tediously note by note vs 1 omni slider to decrease/increase global is taking a much needed/used feature AWAY. The huge default amounts of vibrato added are pretty intense. I have to wonder who decided the default amount and what they were thinking? Almost no one sings like that in pop music. Default vibrato amount should be a user setting anyway - just like custom omni vibrato.
You have one slider control over the vibrato amount. What you have lost is global start/stop offsets, and vibrato frequency. I agree that these need to come back, but you do have vibrato amount, with a single slider and you can control local amounts using the Vibrato Envelope lane. Or use the script that David Cuny wrote long ago, and get control over it all, including vibrato frequency.
I mean, honestly, David Cunyās script is in many ways better than the original V1 vibrato speed via manual mode. I like it better. Dreamtonics should ship SV2 with his scripts. Yes, you have to flatten the note first, which is an extra step, but it works pretty well.
Such a disappointing day. After a week of settling simple installation issues, I set about listening to my favorite, Solaria, from V! moved to V2. As soon as I listened to it and other voices soloed I went looking for the vibrato control. Who sings like that as a default except 1940 Disney voices? Anyway, the first thing. Canāt find it and thus I find myself here after a search for where it exists. This canāt be! So much promise in the new version but like others in this thread more articulate than me, Iām back to V1. The importance of global control of all the params we had over vibrato in V1 cannot be overstated enough. What a shame.
I pretty much decided early on, if Iāve got a lot of work done in V1, Iām sticking with it. And Iām gonna try V2 when starting from scratch, or very little V1 work done on it. Since Iāve yet to detail bends on Rainbowās End with V1, Iāll attempt restarting from scratch with V2 on it. But thatās gonna wait until I finish up with all the other V1 stuff Iām working on ā¦
That one made me laugh - others on the forum have referenced yodelling goats ![]()
With the various improvements to the software Iām a lot more comfortable with it now, and I have moved onto V2 for my projects going forward. The Vibrato thing is still a pain though - it is now applicable to notes, rather than as a default for a track voice.
I really think this feature needs to be brought back into the fold. Having to constantly remember to lasso notes and reset the vibrato is not good for workflow. Even if the default was at a lower, more reasonable number it would help. Iād like to know how many users actually keep the vibrato at the current default level. Iāve never even ventured to move the level higher, even for laughs!
Having said all this, Solaria II is for me a total write-off. It sounds terrible, and I am staying with Solaria I (within Synth V2) for the forseeable future. So the title of my original post is still valid ⦠up to a point!
Youāre rightā¦you COULD redraw the lines by hand, but having to do that for each and EVERY held note is beyond tedious,ā¦itās UNUSABLE.
The āglobal vibratoā parameters in V1 werenāt great (compared to other synthesizers)ā¦as you canāt change the rate of the vibrato faster / slower (which expressive singers do ALL THE TIME). But, even with a single fixed rate as a global parameter, it saved a TON of time. HOPEFULLY Dreamtonics will put in some decent vibrato management controls in the futureā¦(NEAR FUTURE)ā¦
I agree. I CAN manually edit a single note so the vibrato comes out the way I want it to, but it takes a long time. For a long song, having to do this for each and EVERY held note is beyond tediousā¦itās UNUSABLE. So, Iāve been back to using V1 until Dreamtonics gets some basic vibrato controls into V2ā¦
Having to manually edit EVERY SINGLE held note in V2 is beyond tediousā¦itās UNUSABLE.
There are other synthesizer products that allow you to specify starting delay, increase and DECREASE in vibrato frequency, and vibrato tapering off at the end of a noteā¦and do this GLOBALLY. Far better than what even V1 has. But, V2 has NOTHINGā¦so Iām also continuing to use V1 until Dreamtonics add some decent vibrato controls.
