Request for project summary and track text notes

This request probably exists elsewhere (sorry!)

It would be nice to use text notes to describe a particular track or the entire project so one could look at project progress and the different things that one keeps track of during project development. Logic pro has an area for typing in project and track reference notes (not to be confused with musical notation).

A project summary of sorts would be a huge benefit for the musician.

Thanks.

So you have at least one. You can using it.
But yes, some ways of adding personal information into the SynthV project might help too.
1/ You can add muted track, add notes with text (lyrics) inside the notes.
2/ When I create some scripts, there is a lack of a way to add information outside of a simple blocked dialog. But for your purpose, with a new script we can imagine a solution to store text in a local file (project folder) and then display and call it by a simple keyboard shortcut.

FYI, for the exercise, I created 2 scripts to store and display simple notes in external text files. With a simple shortcut, I can add notes in a SynthV project and display them on demand.
I also added a possible ā€œhackā€ to save notes in a group (not attached to a track, so hidden). In this case, the notes are stored directly in the project (when it is saved). 2 scripts: One for the project notes and one the notes of each current track.

Notepad++ i use it for project notes, lyrics, SV converted lyrics (so i can bulk load), track notes, etc etc. plain text files. when it makes more sense to capture things like FX settings which are not available as plain text - screenshots into Google Docs or OneNote export as PDF during archive (to enable reading it later). save presets etc used as well so when you’re proejct is finished you have the active audio, some source audio, the DAW project, the notes etc.

Thank you gentlemen for your responses. On Mac the text equivalent is the ā€˜Text Edit’ app. I do like the script idea… (hacker that I am) however, I would really like an area within each Synth-V project to type in project and track notes… this would mean less book keeping and even tho I think I am organized, it would require a bit more organization. Maybe this will happen in Version 2.0 ???

(The bulk loading sounds interesting to me, and I have not even got myself into a mess with scripting yet!)

Ok but you can use it for all existing scripts made by other users (as mine).

I hope so too, but let’s wait and see…

i failed to mention - on archiving - i also extract the lyrics from each voice - select all notes on the track, ctrl-L, copy & paste in notepad++. repeat. also export as MIDI. this way i have the final set of lyrics and MIDI after edits as a backup. same for the DAW projects - export all audio as printed WAV and the MIDI. future proofing to some degere should i need to revisit 20 years from now…

I just have a directory per project within my SynthV Files directory, each just holds whatever versions of the .svp file I think worth storing and maybe any related source material, my original lyric sheet for example. Backing is saved in a similar structure for DAW projects, everything needed to rebuild a song.

I know we all have different workflows but I don’t understand why you would want to export lyrics and MIDI from the .svp file?

For my part, I made some scripts to export the lyrics of a track (or all tracks) to save them on a text file. Due to multiple adaptations made on the project to adapt the lyrics to the rhythm and notes. And also a script to export in subtitle format with timecode to connect directly to certain videos.

because i have my raw source lyrics, which i mostly bulk load. then as i’m tweaking things in the SV project, adding notes, splitting works/syllables/phoneme etc, this is a way to capture them in a final form for a given version in a plain text format. if somehow the svp file gets corrupted, etc (and all my backups too) i can recreate it. or i can reuse in things like Musescore, Hookpad etc.

MIDI - because i may in addition to previously mentioned safety, i can also use it for additional instrumentation to thicken vocals, build ā€œsolosā€, etc.
