Recording MIDI via a MIDI keyboard in Daw bridge mode requires gymnastics. Has anyone figured out how to do this within the plug-in? As soon as you click the record button in the SV2 plugin, the Daw/plugin starts recording, giving you no time to get the first note in on time. If you record the part IN the DAW, it doesn’t record in the plugin, so playback in the plugin does not happen, wth is going on? Using SV2 in Bridge mode ( version 2.0.6) is virtually impossible unless I’m missing something. And the online manual is still written for version one, with only a reference to upgrading from SV1 to SV2. Great idea for this app, but the developers seem to have missed making the record /midi input via a MIDI keyboard via bridge mode reckless! Please point me in the right direction, and please don’t tell me to use the plug-in standard mode when the music is in the Daw, which would force me to render the Daw tracks and import them into the SV2 app, defeating the need for bridge mode.
Not sure about the bridge mode, I assume you’re using ARA?, but with the plug in mode ,I start my DAW few bars before and click the record button in Synth V. This way I can just play how I would sing the part. It also means that you have to have a few bars worth of time to do it before the Synth V recording starts.
Yes that is also how I have it setup but on my end when I click the the plugin to record and using ARA Bridge, there are delays and other quirky stuff happening. Someone made a suggestion I may try and sometimes putting the plugin in record causes my Daw to intermittently quit. Perhaps an update will fix some of the issues I’m having. I understand there are a few kinks to be worked out depending on the machine. Thanks.
Hey are you able to insert a bar before measure 1 in the plug-in?
What happens here is sometimes when I place the plug-in into record it crashes my Logic Pro or the plug in plays as soon as I click the record not allowing me time to play the part… It’s wild!
Someone suggested recording the midi part into the DAW track that contains the SV2 ARA bridge (the instrument track) and then later record that into the plug in but because this particualr project has 1 open bar at the top in the DAW and I can’t insert a coresponding measure at the top in the Plugin things get wacky. I’ll figure it out eventually. We could use another update but some folks have NO issues. 2.0.6 still has bugs on my particular machine it would seem. 2.0.0 was unusable so I assume as time progresses things will smooth out… great app though
Can only speak for Cubase on Windows 11, but I start the recording a few bars ahead. That’s normally how I would record any MIDI instrument. That is unless the OP is starting the recording on bar 0. If so, move everything in the project to bar 3 and begin recording from bar 0 …
Greetings, Are you able to insert a bar before measure 1 in the plug in as is possible in DAWS just out of curoisity? And on my machine I have to contended with the Daw crashing sometimes when I click the record button in the SV2 (ARA bridge mode)… YIKES!
Dunno about pre-record but for me I would normally have a production start on Bar 3 so when I export the final mix I can start it a beat or bar before the first hit.
Of course if you already have recorded groups in SV for me it is a case of highlighting all the groups and moving them together. I’m not sure if @jfa who is the guru on programming around here has something to do that automatically, or perhaps it is already in the SV options, but I’m a bit old school and move clips and groups around manually.
I said on another post we should be looking more closely at users’ hardware configurations to find out more about why crashes are occuring. My CB Pro 14 setup has been rock solid since V1, but others seem to have glitchy problems here and there.
@Eman If you are using Logic as your DAW I would strongly recommend not inserting anything before 1 1 1 1 in it. Logic Pro has a long standing but intermittent flaw with projects that do this: you are likely to find such projects become corrupt. More information about this can be found at the logicprohelp forum.
Yes I normally have a blank measure at the top. Thanks. Long time LPX user. As cool as SV2 is it gives me fits, lol as I’m new to that platform. This is why I’d like to be able to insert a blank measure at top of the SV2 when used in ARA bridge mode.
As I mentioned in another thread, I find that it helps to set the track to “Unload the Voice” when recording MIDI notes so that a waveform is not generated. If you choose an actual voicebank, the VST has trouble rendering the notes to audio in realtime and frequently crashes. Once all the notes have been recorded and you’re ready to start editing, re-load the voicebank.
Not sure this helps but someone from Dreamtonics support told me a while back that Logic Pro does not fully support ARA and thus what I was having issues with would not be supported. That being, adding or deleting regions in LP did not reflect and sync with SVP v1 tracks, forcing me to manually go in and make these changes in the SVP track to fit the track within LP. That still seems to be the case so perhaps your issue lies in this lack of full ARA support within LP. I have the latest version of LP on a M4 Mac and haven’t fully tested this on SVP v2 yet but thought I’d mention it. Good luck.
Yes FULL ARA is not supported but Bridge mode is and thats all I need for now. The new update 2.0.7 is working as expected untilI I run into other bugs!
The advice I was given which seems to work is even in Bridge mode record the performance on the DAW instrument track that contains SV2. And THEN place SV2 in record and play back to capture the performance from the DAW track. This is much smoother than having to export and reimport the midi data. There are still some glitches but this makes the app doable.
Make sure you boot into Rossetta for newer macs and OS. so far version 2.0.7 works ok … there are occasional glitches but this version is more workable than the previous releases. Best of luck.
