Question on "Unknown" Tax Charged on Studio 2 Upgrade Checkout

Hi,

Can I ask what is the tax that is being included at the payment page for the Studio 2 product upgrade.

Is this a sales tax or VAT?
Is this unknown “tax” being applied by FastSpring (the payment service provider) or is it coming directly from Dreamtonics?
** This added “tax” is not explained in the invoice received.*

As a someone who is purchasing this digital product with no added services or physical shipment, I find it unusual to see this kind of tax applied (without any clarification in the invoice received).

I have never encountered this despite having bought many digital music software products and music sample libraries from other website.

I guess it depends where you are buying from?

Here in the UK you will find Fastspring applying 20% VAT on top of the web prices, unless you are registered in the UK for VAT in which case Fastspring will deduct the tax when the VAT ID is applied.

Fastspring typically do the payment processing for payments for a range of digital companies. Maybe physical sales as well, but I’ve only come across it when buying plugins.

You might find more responses from other users if you move this question to the Synth V Studio section of the forum. I accidentally came across this thread.

Oh, so it is fastspring vat charge.

This is is the first time I am seeing invoice not explaining what is the tax charge.
When I usually bought vst and sample libraries from other site which use fastspring, their email invoice will list the VAT charge.

Now I have to manually list it as VAT in my expense.

Thank you

No problem

I’m lucky enough to have a VAT ID, so you enter that when checking out it removes the VAT.

Wait you are able to key in VAT ID in the fastspring payment page?
Why do I not have this option?

Nvm, I will just email support and ask.

Yes - When you get the checkout page there is a little link saying something like ‘Do you have a VAT ID’ then it opens up a box to enter the ID. It checks that it is valid and removes the tax.

Dunno how much success you’ll have going back over, may just have to claim it back on your VAT return.
