Hello all. I have a video so you can hear what Synthesizer V is doing. I am using “sh ih t” to pronounce that (rude) word… but I don’t understand why it does not work. According to the Phoneme reference page, SH should sound like SHould and T should sound like T… but neither do! The word sounds like JiJ when played back.
See the video HERE.
What works?
What is the mouth opening set at, at that point? That can definitely throw things off. Also, make sure the language is set to English on that word. Probably is already, but can’t see it in the video (this is in the Notes panel (local), not the Voice panel (global).
Try deleting the word and adding it back in - delete the whole note… then draw the note back in and add the word.
Hi, thanks… I made a video to show you, I have not changed anything, an it is set on English. Deleting and recreating that word does not fix the problem… what to do!?
mouth opening is in the lane underneath. It’s the only place you’ll find it. Default is for it to be at 50% value. If its at anything else, you MAY get unpredictable results.
The other thing that might cause this, is there being a very small gap between the previous word. If they butt up against each other, then SV will adjust timing. If you don’t, it might try to squeeze in the first syllable. So there are two things you can do - either butt them up against each other, or increase the gap by shortening the previous syllable/note.
Small gaps between words is not the recommended workflow with Synth-V. If you want to shorten things, you can use the phoneme editor (in the pic above, its the lane above the mouth opening lane). You can also use an apostrophe before a word to force a “glottal stop” before it sings that word.
Thanks my friend, very helpful! Removing the small gap turned the JIT into Sh… which is great, thanks!
The mouth was set to 50% unchanged. In the meantime I have another issue, with the - not causing the previous word to flow into the new note… but I will post that separately as it’s a different issue. thanks again!
That sounds like another gap between notes, they MUST butt up to each other for this to work.
thanks, yeah they were, but ive found that if you are changing previous words, sometimes you have to delete the note and recreate it for the - to work…
For future reference there’s a script you can run to close the gaps - you will find it under MODIFY → Remove short silences.
Thanks, but that tool sometimes causes other problems, and if you globally apply it, there may be consequences you don’t notice until much later. See this for example…
Yes, assembling notes can change the overall result. Regardless of the method (script or manual). In your case, you can open the bottom panel “Phoneme timing” and adjust (increase the length) of the phoneme “ao” to make it on the second (less) notes.
Hi and thanks for the response. I see that when I remove the short silences, AO gets shorter for no reason! This is a bug, surely? Why would it do that otherwise, there is a - in the next clip, so it should remain as part of the previous word. See this video, I am showing how difficult it is to edit, if I simply drag the AO longer, it reduces the size of the S part of the word, and then S is so small (invisible) that you cannot lengthen it again… very messy editing IMO.
Longer, yes, but not too much. Increasing it doesn’t mean destroying everything. Also adjust the next phonemes to preserve them. And enought to ear the second note… You can also try to select these notes and using AI-retakes.
Thanks yes it takes a lot longer than I had expected. Also it should be impossible to shrink something completely so that it cannot be extended again. This is how it is at the moment. If you expand one too much it makes the other disappear and you cannot bring it back without using undo… You can’t extended towards the right because it will select the next clip instead as you see on the video… The editing function could really be worked on quite a lot I think… For example being able to multiple select a few clips and then drag editing them could proportionately decrease or increase their size depending on how big they were in the first place. This would mean making space for something else without causing problems like I did in my edit.
