Only one license? Am I dreaming?

One computer is offline and I left it at home, with a poorly working, useless SV2. I took my laptop on a trip and wanted to check everything again in Synth V2. I can’t, you’re telling me to deactivate the license offline on a computer that I don’t have access to now. So many problems with operation, lots of errors and one license? This is unbelievable.
Licensce conflict

Synth-V has always been use on one machine at a time only. I’m guessing you didn’t read the EULA.

It’s annoying that you only have license to use on one machine at a time, I’ll grant you that, but if you didn’t know about it, I think that’s really on you because it does say so in the EULA.

I think you didn’t read it though. Here’s the transcript from the official user manual: “Each registration code can be used on a
maximum of 3 devices at any time. Activation
will fail if the number of registered devices
exceeds this limit. In that case, you need to
first deactivate the product on one of the
devices.”

Can you link to the page?

When I put your quote into a google search, the AI response shows what you did, but its actually quoting from a manual from the version of Synth-V from 2018.

Does the current documentation also say this?

Yes, indeed this is from version 1 (https://synthesizerv.com/resources/installation-guide-en-us.pdf - site 4), which I have and use two computers. I have now upgraded, so it should apply, especially since the v2 instructions do not say anything about it. I only saw information that they must be my devices only.

That’s not the AI version 1 manual. I’m sure there was a fuss about it at the time, but the EULA from 2020 says this -

  1. The license granted by us to the user allows the product to be installed only on one computer. The user shall not install the product on multiple computers with a single license.
  2. You may transfer the product to another computer without obtaining a new license. However, you must delete the product completely from any computer on which it is already installed.

So we have a strange situation, inconsistency - one contradicts the other. Which one should I stick to? I am surprised by the EULA. I have a lot of software and this is the first time I have encountered such a case. Thanks for your help and … for making me even more nervous :). Best regards

I too find this inconvenient.
However, it seems that it is now easier than before to share a license between two PCs.

I used to have two synth v licences to avoid problems, but now you can’t even have two licences registered to the same account, so I just let my second license lapse.

Regardless of a previous version’s licence wording, when you clicked on ‘OffLine Licence’ surely you saw this…?

I think it is fair enough that as I am taking the licensing away from their control, I have to manage which install is currently active?

Of course, I’m not saying that it’s unfair. It’s a bit strange, compared to other software on the music market. It’s also very inconvenient, because if I forget to turn off offline on my computer, I have a problem. Regards

I agree. I was happy with the old license where I could install it on both my laptop and desktop. Now, I have to remember to deactivate my desktop, every time I leave.

This is super annoying. I guess Dreamtonics doesn’t want their customers to be too happy.

Well, this is problematic if there is not even the possibility to have 2 licenses on the same account.
The thing will be to have 2 accounts, but it is kind of stupid to force clients to do it like that. Other companies do it this way too, but makes little sense to me as customer.

If you use separate accounts, you’ll also need two licenses for all your voices because everything is linked to an account login.

True, and that makes it even more of a problem for customers.

This appears to have been addressed - if you try to log on to a second computer while your first one is logged in, you can force it to log out of your first one.

How do you do this? Can you explain?

I was working on my desktop yesterday, exited and went straight to my laptop. When I opened SV on my laptop I guess there was some network delay… in any event around the time the login box appears another one appeared asking if I wanted to force logout of my other machine. I didn’t do anything special to initiate this.

Was your other machine activated offline?

I was a little disappointed to find out you can only really be logged in at once PC. Yes, there is the offline option for your main PC, but competing software usually allows you be logged into 2 computers at once for the purposes of desktop/laptop.
