Has anyone tried the new update? It seems to be a new version of 2.0.7 called 2.1b. How will installing a beta on top of a paid but still buggy app work? And are they releasing a manual for these upcoming updates?
This is a new business model apparently, using paying customers as beta testers. If it were not for this forum and the few V 2 tutorials out, I and possibly many others would be lost. I had actually got a refund but then repurchased the app on advice from others and during the V 2.0.7 update which is somewhat usable now, albeit still buggy. Scared to try this new beta. Any advice? They need to separate this forum between PC and Mac platforms and provide an official guide and or manual for SV2……. Great app… when it works.
V2.0.7 is the current official version.
The fact that Dreamtonics is making version 2.1 - currently under development, - available as a public beta version 2.1.0b1 is a courtesy to all interested users, not just selected beta testers.
I certainly wouldn’t call it a business model.
The fact that bugs are discovered more quickly through wider use of the beta version ultimately benefits all users.
Anyone who doesn’t want to participate and prefers a stable version should forgo the new (interesting!) features until the official release of V2.1.
Will the beta overwrite the official version? Will there be maintenance updates for bugs still found in 2.0.7 or improvements to the current official release? I wonder if v 2.1 will be considered a free upgrade or a new version altogether. This is for the Mac platform and may affect PC platforms as well. It’s a big jump going from 2.0.7 to 2.1, especially when some users still have issues and/or request minor improvements to the official version. And there is yet to be an official user guide for v2, as far as I know, the official guide on YouTube is still for version 1.
Yes, installing the beta will overwrite the non-beta version you have installed. It’s 100% optional. They did the same thing with SV1 where they released betas multiple times to allow us to preview upcoming changes and fixes. It’s 100% optional to participate in the beta. The beta model is a great way for companies to gather data from interested customers before official point releases.
Thanks, and yes, I understand the use of the beta. As you pointed out, my concern is the logistics. Will the beta still be considered a paid release or a trial? And what would be the proper procedure for removing it and going back to 2.0.7, should the beta crash or be inoperable on my system, if the beta is problematic?
Just keep hold of the 2.0.7. installation file. I had a problem with 2.07 and rolled back to 2.06 without any issues. Should work the same with this release.
to my understanding the beta will function as a full paid version provided you own sv2. once it releases i expect it’ll be a free update to sv2 owners just like the preceding minor updates has been. but as Manassas77 said, keep a backup of the old installers if you’re worried.
Thanks, I was just checking. I did not want to jump to the beta and inadvertently make my official version inoperable.
