Version 2 is a great update, but I miss fundamental improvements to the user interface:
Better recognizability of the grid in the piano roll. Bars, quarter and eighth notes should be clearly recognizable by line thickness, contrast or color gradations
[ALT]-drag to duplicate a note in the piano roll. This is a classic way of working in any DAW
Link mode: It should be possible to link tracks with a link button. If you change the position of a note or drag a note in a track longer/shorter, this note would also change position or become longer/shorter in the linked track(s). This would be very helpful for polyphonic arrangements.
I would really like to see these improvements!
Greetings, Ralf
We all agree and to complete I can also add:
Drag & drop: DAW to SynthV midi part to group on target measure, recover lost midi velocity to loudness parameter
Harmony : Duplication of the track/group for harmony voicing
Lyrics : Extraction of lyrics: subtitle video format SRT or simple output text (without characters br + -)
Editor : Offset of timing notes (alt cursor left/right)…
Scripting: debugger & so on
A lot of these missing features (harmony, drag&drop, lyrics, editor) have been myself scripted to compensate these.
But a better way is to integrate them directly (ideas already sent to the support months ago).
These features are desired by many users and - if available in the V2 - would certainly have been mentioned in the presentation video. And you can also see that the grid is still as undifferentiated as in V1. But maybe you’re right and I’ll be pleasantly surprised!
I would love to be able to drag and drop MIDI from a track in Logic to a track with the SV plugin in Logic. Now I have to export MIDI and import it within the SV plugin itself. Rather cumbersome.
But more important: they need to fix ARA implementation. Every other plugin I use in Logic does it fine – Melodyne, etc. Right now it is impossible to play back in Logic and record in SV at the same time. (Well, you can if you click on the transport in the SV plugin, then click on Logic transport, but this a kludge.) Perhaps this would also fix the Undo History bug? Now if you go to another track and do something and come back to the SV track, the Undo History is gone.
I also wish they would conform to the Mac OS interface:
Do not duplicate Mac key commands! Some standard Mac commands do wildly different things in SV. This slows down workflow.
The Escape key should cancel and close an open dialogue window. It does nothing now.
Most important: Option - drag should copy a note! This is pretty annoying that you cannot do this. Slows a fella down.
All that being said, this program is freaking amazing. It has sped up my workflow considerably since I don’t have to get a real singer involved till the very end of the process.
When talking about ARA in Logic, you are talking about using in Rosetta mode? As far as I know, ARA is still unavailable on Apple Silicon in native mode. This ball belongs to Apple but I’m not holding my breath since they have had over 4 years of time to fix this and it is not available. I also would not hold my breath that they are working on it to fix Rosetta mode since that is technology nearer every year to become obsolete.
Actually, ARA is not important – what is important is to be able to sync SV with playback in Logic and to play the keyboard to record into SV at the same time. Now to do that you have to click on the SV transport (which disappears randomly) AND the Logic transport. Not a workable solution.
Unfortunately, the developers are probably not reading this. I am a screen designer myself and even sent a finished screen design for a link mode to Dreamtonics more than a year ago. Zero response.
Yes, you’re absolutely right, it’s incredibly fantastic and even at an extremely reasonable price. So of course my wishes are also just complaining at a high level …
I’m afraid of version 2 with the impact of script improvements (if any). If my 35 scripts are still usable in V2. And I dream that at least some of them become useless.
I agree, this would be a useful feature! I often have the same issue.
I created a little script (groupsynchronized) to help me with this situation. It has very limited actions (moving timing notes only) to synchronize groups of similar notes (with the same lyrics).
