Mai – Epitaph (original song, lyric video)

I wrote this song together with the guitarist of my band. It’s a long Prog Metal song with extended instrumental parts. Mai starts only at 2:13, but I hope you will like her singing: I spent some more time on making her sound beautiful and expressive than I usually spend when the purpose of the recording is only to help us with the rehearsals.
The video consists of free stock videos taken from pexels.com. Of course it’s amateurish, but we’re an amateur band earning no money with our music and always struggling to find enough time to keep us going, so… It was fun to develop the idea for this video and to find the right clips, and it’s a way to submit the message of the song – that should be enough for now.

To get in the right mood you might first listen to King Crimson’s song ‚Epitaph’: „The fate of all mankind, I see, is in the hand of fools“. Today, it seems, we all have become fools.

very cool song!

one recommendation - on the vocals vs guitars - i’d make a small cut on the guitars to let the vocal dominate. a side chained dynamic EQ can do this very easily and drop some 1.5K-2K 1-2db by setting the side chain to the vocal track and the EQ on the guitar(s), or better, a guitar buss / submix. this will reduce some of the masking of the vocals.

Thank you very much for your advice! I’ll have to try it out with a new project, for somehow my files of Epitaph (and of another song I posted here, Surrender) have been corrupted, I can’t load them anymore. That’s strange and annoying.
