New tune about love gone wrong. Really, really wrong.
KILLER
There’s a killer among us
Never seen
So well concealed
Revealed
In this moment
There’s a killer among us
Always been there
Waiting
Like I feared
You said we all have needs
Unspoken yearning
You would let me bleed
Alone in the dark
And then you chose to leave
Cause I’m not the one
And we should
Not have begun
To seek love
Where there was none to find
There’s a killer behind us
Like a dream
Seems so unreal
Fate sealed
All alone now
There’s a killer behind us
I scream
Your name too late
Cold steel
There’s a killer beside us
To deceive
Uninvited
Excited
By the torment
There’s a killer beside us
That will not leave
So it’s decided
There’s a killer inside us
Don’t you see
Been here forever
So clever
with atonement
There’s a killer inside us
Coming clean
Will not redeem transgressors
You said wait and see
Now all of it’s burning
You said it was me
That I was the spark
But you just won’t believe
That we’re almost done
That I would
Pick up the gun
That you should have
Listened and run
You will beg and plead
The tables are turning
You’ll wish it was me
But I’m not the mark
And I just can’t believe
What I have become
That I could
Get the job done
There’s a killer among us
Never seen
Always concealed
Revealed
In the moment
And this killer is ready
To kill again
That’s Natalie?! I never would have guessed that. It reveals how many possibilities Synthesizer V offers! – For me, there’s a certain similarity between “Laid to waste” and “Killer” in the treatment of vocals and melody. I, in my songs, often try to “overcompensate” the fact that there’s “only” AI singing by creating some sort of “drama” for and by the voice, letting f.e sing Asterian in a high tenor register or something the like. Whereas in the vocals of the two songs I named, I feel a sort of restraint and understatement which could well be interpreted as lack of emotion of the song protagonist, as coldness, as brutality. Is this your intention? But somehow I believe - without being able to name reasons for it -, this would have still more impact if there were small “mistakes in the matrix”, namely more small emotional nuances and inflections, which perhaps only(?) a real human voice can deliver with the sublety which is needed to preserve that overall impression of lack of emotion, coldness, brutality… It’s complicated for me to describe…
You are very insightful, Mattis. You are correct. In both songs, the person has been ruined emotionally and has been stripped of empathy. I see this every day – people so lost they can never be found. So hurt they can never heal. When people become damaged, they tend to withdraw from any emotion as a protection mechanism. If they don’t feel, they can’t be wounded.
It’s not all doom and gloom. Sometimes there’s some sunshine:
