Oh I agree I find Mai very different from SOLARIA! I am not fond of her voice but I agree she is different. I do not find the others (Natalie, SOLARIA and Felicia) to sound very different from each other.
I went back in for another try at using SOLARIA in one of my original songs with her singing a duet part with my vocals. My workflow was basically this,
- save a WAV of my vocal track w/o fx
- bring that track into Synth V
- convert that audio track to MIDI
- correct all of the lyrics (this took the most time!)
- assign SOLARIA to sing the track in her default vocal mode
- bounce SOLARIA to audio
- bring SOLARIA audio into my DAW to mix with the rest of my tracks
After working on this a bit I found I was not pleased with how SOLARIAâs vocals matched mine. They sounded a bit shrill and higher pitched than I wanted. So here is how I fixed this,
- went back into Synth V and changed SOLARIA to Passionate vocal mode and bounced a WAV again
- brought the new WAV into my DAW and this time I applied the Little AlterBoy plugin to shift the formant by -0.7
- added verb and other fx (as I do!)
And now I am quite happy with my duet with SOLARIA! My big takeaway is to experiment with vocal modes in Synth V! (Another is to remember to try other plugs from my huge GAS collection!)
And, back to my original post in this thread, maybe I donât need another female voice right away. Maybe I can change the ones I have (SOLARIA and Mai) enough to satisfy my desire for 2 female singers! Or, maybe I âneedâ a couple more to add spice! After all, the holiday season is upon us here in North America!
Good to hear you got the results you were looking for!
Just a note about moving the formants - the Gender parameter does the thing, so you should be able to change that within SynthV instead of using an additional tool.
Thanks for reminding me about the Gender parameter. Yes, I just tried it and I think it is as good as or better than Little AlterBoy! Dang, this product has so many jewels inside it!
Why the thumbs down?
Does this feature lower the quality of the voice or add any undesired artifacts? Or, put another way, are the best results obtained by leaving this setting at 0?
I have never noticed any aditional artifacts from any combination of parameter settings within SynthV - you can make voices sound strange by pushing hard, raspy or hissy for example but such are character voices.
I have definitely had artifacts by repitching voices with Melodyne, RipX or my DAW, I guess you would expect that though!
Because I clicked the wrong icon.
Fixed it!
I think Felicia brings more tonal variation than any of the English speaking voices that have come before her. While her voice is significantly different to Solaria (the gold standard), she is both versatile, and filled with soul.
There are lots of good female voices that perfectly fit a number of voice types. Theyâre all great in their own right. If youâre looking for a voice with soul, that would be Felicia.
Thank you for that feedback and recommendation!
I am using Felicia for my new song:
Nice use of Felicia! It really demonstrates what she is capable of.
Many thanks, then you will take it?
Maybe not as I donât think she fits as well in my genre which is more country/folk.
