Guide to using ARA on windows please!

Hi

Please could some kind soul help an idiot? Is there a step by step guide on how to use ARA?

Im on SV 2.0.6 & Studio One 7.1.1 on windows 11.

Ive tried. but cant make it work.

God im stupid…

For me on Cubase 14 it works like this:

  1. Add SV2 as an instrument track.

  2. Create an audio track and put a sample on it - anything, a drum hit, whatever.

  3. On CB there is an option to add an extension to the audio track - choose the SV2 ARA option.

  4. Now when you open SV2 you should have the ARA Bridge symbol light up in yellow on the top right-hand corner of the window.

  5. If you don’t have the symbol lighting up, try moving the audio file on the timeline a few bars forward. Dunno why this works, but on Cubase that is how it has been since V1.

Now you should find that the DAW playback head synchronizes with SV2 both ways.

Hope this helps with Studio One.

Many thanks!

I followed the steps but never get Step 4 option that displays anything different. Tried moving clips, but nothing.

Help please! Remember I’m very dim…

P.S. Why bother with step 1 as its not used?

This is the option available on Cubase to add an extension to a track, in this case the ARA audio track:

So I add this ARA audio track with a random audio clip, and I also add SV2 as an instrument, then do all the work in the vst window.

Others on here have mentioned using the actual ARA FX plugin, but I have always followed this procedure. You don’t get any visual clues as to where the SV groups or notes are, but it works for me.

This is how i use ARA in Cubase Artist 14 with SV2…

I record my vocals, so that i have an audio track in Cubase. I then highlight the clip and load an Extension to it from the Info bar. It then loads SV with the audio (but you don’t see the audio track). I then go Extract Notes from Audio in SV from the Automate menu. Once i hit Okay it extracts the notes and lyrics into SV. I can then play the track and the rest of the tracks will play from Cubase. I can then change the notes as needed. To reopen SV i just double-click the clip in CB to open SV. Once you are done editing the notes in SV you can highlight the clip again in CB and select Make the Changes Permanent from the Extensions menu in the Info bar.

This is what works for me. I hope this helps

Thankyou both for the great info!

Still not working :frowning: 2.0.7 shouldn’t be long, :hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed:,

Have you tried right-clicking over the dummy audio clip and applying the ARA extension to it? Just guessing - I have no idea how Stduio One works!!

Thanks to all for the great info. I will try harder!

Please note the special instructions for Studio One.

In case anyone comes across this thread, here is a post I made testing ARA on Cubase / Windows 11:

Hi. Into Studio One

  1. Add an audio track (mono)
  2. Record a short (minimal) audio clip
  3. a. Right click on this recorded clip - Object FX - select Synth V 2 ARA plugin
    or
    b. drag the plugin - Synth V Studio ARA 2 - from the effects window (not instruments - this is important) to this clip
  4. Insert the Synth V 2 Plugin from the instruments window (not effects) - without ARA in the name - into the next track in S1
  5. When the synth starts, in its upper right corner you will have the ARA button - probably already enabled

Now you can hide the audio clip you created - you won’t need it (but don’t delete it).

I hope this is what you meant and it will help. Best regards

Thanks guys, I’ll give them a try!
