OK, I feel like a complete idiot BUT I was just scratching my head while V2 didn’t seem to be recording my playing in DAW as a plug in as no notes appeared on the screen. I then remembered that when recording in V2, you get this coloured area and it will only show your recoded notes when it is active and by default it seems to be active only about 8 bars or so. So I grabbed the ending of this colour bar and lo and behold, there were the notes that I had played and now I could also hear them. My question is: Why is this on? can I get rid of it since it is strange that you can’t hear on even see what you have played without stretching the that bar on display? Is there a preference that I have missed?
Someone pointed out that to record in V2 you need to have a group in place already. So, right-click over the voice channel and choose ‘create new group’ and stretch it as far as you need, then MIDI notes will record inot the group.
Seems an odd way of doing it, but it works, so that’s what I do
Not necessary - you can just record and drag the coloured bar out to accommodate all notes not currently visible.
You can also split your group (coloured bar) into smaller more manageable group chunks by hovering over where you want the split, right-clicking and choosing split group.
Groups help SV2 concentrate on changes within the group and not re-render other notes in the song. They also demark vocal mode and voice parameters very useful if you want your chorus to be brighter and your verse more breathy for example…
I was a bit concerned at the V2 usage of groups and the inability to have ‘floating’ notes outside of the groups (for adlibs etc.), but now it fits into my workflow okay.
However, I still miss the ability to apply changes to the voice parameters on a ‘per group’ basis as before.
It can still be done by selecting all notes in a group and apply changes, but if you add in notes at a later stage in the development of the project its easy to forget about the notes that have already had changes applied and it gets messy pretty quickly.
