Copy Paste wierdness?

When using copy and paste in the Piano roll of Synth V the paste will not place the selected notes where the playhead is located. It seems to paste the notes several bars earlier in the track. Why is this and how can I fix this? It’s very frustrating. Thanks!

Don

When I copy notes or groups (CTRL-C then CTRL-V), the copied notes are placed at the same position as the original. Then I will move the new notes to the target place. But on the arrangement view with groups when I move my mouse directly to the target position and right-click (a context menu shows “Paste”), the new copied group is placed at the exact mouse position.

I haven’t used groups much yet. I’m so used the way it works in the Logic Piano Roll this is throwing me off for simple copy and paste. If I just want to repeat a few words/notes, groups seems like overkill? Maybe I need to try it. Thanks

But there is also another way… with a script. Select notes and use script (set to a keyboard shortcut) to paste them to your target position. Maybe it is already done, I don’t know. We can search it (but not complex to make it).

Where can I learn to write scripts? Do I need to know Java or other programming languages or are there easier to use tools?

I found the keystroke stuff in SynthV for the other scripts you wrote.

Thanks

The reference guide: scripting guide
There: resource-scripts
and to set shorcuts: set-shortcuts-for-scripts
Other infos: synth-v-script-archive

But hey… I just wrote and published one: ‘DuplicateSelectedNotes.lua’
See there: JFA scripts: synthv-scripts

Wonderful, thanks! I’m going to check out more of your scripts. Meanwhile, here’s another issue I am trying to find a workaround for:

It seems the ARA Synth V plugin won’t work in Logic Pro, even the latest version. I was told that this is because Logic doesn’t fully support ARA. The result of this is that as I compose and arrange in Logic, adding or deleting sections and/or regions is not reflected in the SynthV tracks. That means I have to go in and manually modify those SV tracks to add or delete the sections/regions to match the logic project. Otherwise the Synth V tracks are out of alignment with the Logic arrangement/tracks. This is quite restrictive and time consuming to my workflow. Are you familiar with this issue and if so, got any ideas for a workaround? Thanks!

I don’t use this DAW, but it’s the same in others. If you cut some parts, you have to realign the nested notes.
In Cubase ARA is available with audio track. But if you have no one… no ARA!
ARA with SynthV only syncs the currently playing song. No cutting/adding notes or clips directly.

thats a bummer, but hey, it’s software so…

Thanks

I forgot to comment about this setup option:
PastePlayhead-2024-12-25
I think you don’t need a script with this setup configuration.
And the paste also depends on the snap value (1/4, 1/8, … “do not snap”).

I’m also having issues with Logic. Apple has ARA 2 working on Logic, so it’s up to the plugin designers to make it work. Logic is by far the most popular DAW in the world, so I would think Dreamtronic would make compatibility a priority. Cause, you know, more money for them! They deserve it because they make a great product.

My other ARA 2 plugins work fine in Logic.

the Mac OS and Logic (and other mac based DAW) often do not work with ARA correctly without being set in Rosetta mode. without fully supporting ARA, many plugins will have issues. in the Windows world, using Sonar (or CbB) ARA works pretty much flawlessly on all ARA plugins, many of which fail to work in the Mac side. so hopefully Apple will commit to supporting ARA fully and thus simplify its use by other DAW.
