Cannot Get "child" to Last Two Notes

I am trying to sing “child” and have is sing “chi-ild” so that it takes two separate notes to sing, making “child” sound as two syllables instead of one. I type in “child” and then put a " - " in the next note, but it doesn’t work. No matter how close or far the second note is timed. I tried putting in: “chi” in the first note then “yulled” in the second note, but that doesn’t work either. It pronounces “chi” as “ki.”

The closest I can come is “chai” and “ulled.” But the “chai” sounds more like “jai.”

Any tips on how to get this? Thanks! BTW I am using Solaria version 1. (Version 2 sounds bad!)

One option is to record you singing “child” as two syllables (don’t worry about the pitch), in your daw then bring it into SV (or use ARA) and convert it to midi and lyrics using the Extract Notes from Audio feature. This will show you what phonemes SV came up with. It’s usually pretty good at the conversion. It’s worth a try.

I figured it out. I put:

chi ulled

But I changed the phoneme in chi to be “ch ay” And now it sounds perfect!

I never messed with the phonemes before.

Thanks. I haven’t tried singing into it. Or using the Extract notes from audio feature. Seems like a lot of extra steps. But I’ll try it in the future. Thanks.

This is the way! Now that you dipped your toes in phonemes you will have the world open up in Synth V. A handy tool when you want to change pronunciation, think of a few words that have the sound you want. In your case, ‘chi’ was coming out ‘ki’. You don’t want ‘k’ you want ‘ch’ so you could make an extra few notes and put words in them like: teacher, rich, witch, etc. Look at the phonemes they use and it will teach you how to convert ‘k’ back to ‘ch’. Once you get it fixed up, delete the extra notes.
